Meet the Founders
Founder of PetAirapy, Annette Uda, formed PetAirapy, LLC with her husband, Mike, after years of watching their dog, Tasha, struggle with pet allergies and pet atopic dermatitis, or pet atopy. Annette explains how PetAirapy came to be and the amazing effects they have seen with Tasha.
In 2004, my then 3 year old Shih-Tzu, Tasha, was diagnosed with environmental and inhalant allergies. Every year, it seemed her allergies were getting worse and causing even more reactions. It was heartbreaking watching her suffer with these allergies – trying to find relief by scratching and rubbing her face on the carpet until her face was raw and sore. She developed hot spots on her body because of the incessant chewing and scratching of her skin.
At my vet’s office, I learned Tasha’s condition was not at all unique. Dogs of all breeds and sizes suffered just the same as Tasha with little medical or natural relief. My husband and I were spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars per year on medications, shampoos, steroids and anything we thought may help our little girl. Some of these medications or ointments worked for a short time but the allergies and symptoms would always return. It was a vicious cycle.
With my husband in the indoor air quality (IAQ) control industry, I learned that pollens, ragweed and other airborne allergens were being carried in to my home on our shoes, our clothes and even just opening our door allowed these culprits a way in. I was aware of the affect of air quality with humans, but the thought of the affect on our pets had not yet crossed our minds. I was shocked to realize that my own home was one of the main irritants for my dog as well. Harmful pollutants were continuously circulating through our entire home by our HVAC system, spreading around all of these irritants to plague Tasha over and over again. Molds, germs, diseases and bacteria were also breeding and multiplying inside of our HVAC system and then being dispersed throughout our home. Why was I spending all this money on medications for Tasha that can cause harmful, long-term effects when the main problem was my home?
My husband and I decided to treat the problem in our home to get rid of Tasha's symptoms. We needed means to an end. With Mike’s extensive expertise, he had been focusing on air quality in our house and had cleared up our allergy and asthma symptoms, but with Tasha’s unique situation, we came to understand it would take more than the average air quality control to offer her relief. With use of powerful medical-grade UVC light technology and state-of-the-art allergen filters to trap pollens, ragweed and allergens, our home became a safe haven for Tasha. Since November 2007 Tasha has not been on any allergy medications. Our vet is amazed at the progress she has made and how much she has improved from the former years of misery.
Dangerous side effects can be caused by long-term use of steroids and allergy medications in pets and cannot be reversed. With the air and surface sanitizing systems we have, it is my hope that medications such as these will no longer effect our pets, allowing them to live a healthier, happier and longer life in a home or environment that is clean, fresh and safe for you, your pets and your family and then we can all breathe a little easier.
